The Brigadoon Banner and Doris Adderson

January 7th, 2009

Doris Adderson's Banner

Brigadoon received a remarkable gift in mid December - the Brigadoon Banner / quilt.

The quilt, 5′ x 3′.5″, was made using all the colours of Brigadoon (blue(s)-sky/water; Green(s) - environment/land). The detailed patterns within the quilt reflect numerous elements of camp and of the Brigadoon vision creating a spectacular, vibrant and dynamic piece. As stunning as the quilt is, it is the story behind the making of the quilt which makes it truly remarkable.

Doris Adderson has long been a supporter of Brigadoon and Camp Goodtime (the Canadian Cancer Society’s one week residential summer camp for children aged 7 - 16 for children living with cancer or brain tumour in Nova Scotia. In fact, one year Mrs. Adderson made the costumes needed for a camp game - Journey Through EFIL - played by camp staff as a learning/orientation game.) Always generous with her skill and talent, Mrs. Adderson had also made numerous quilts for the QEII Palliative Care Program as well as other charities.

In 2008 Mrs. Adderson decided to start work on a new project - a Brigadoon Banner. She did so while living with her own health challenges. In the Summer of 2008 Mrs. Adderson passed. She asked her daughters to finish the Brigadoon quilt…which they did with excellence. On Dec. 17, 2008, Carol Adderson (daughter, pictured below) and Kelly McKeage (grand daughter) presented the banner to Brigadoon.

The banner is currently hanging in the Brigadoon office but we plan to find a good home for it once the Village is built (we are thinking of the medical centre).

We could not be any more grateful for such a remarkable gift and for the friendship of such an outstanding woman. It is an honour to have our banner - thank you!

Peace and Good Health,

Dave

End of Year Report - 2008

It has been quite a good year for Brigadoon thanks to the remarkable effort put forth by volunteers, partners and donors. Brigadoon is exceedingly grateful for all your efforts, interest, guidance and belief. Click here to review the summary of the year.

We are also thrilled to note an unexpected campaign committment made on the afternoon of Dec. 16 of $100,000. Great way to end the year.

Please note Brigadoon offices will be closed the afternoon of Dec. 22 to Jan. 5 (but we will be checking voicemail).

Peace and Good Health to you,

Dave

Thank you Office Interiors!

There are certain items which make any office efficient, functional and complete. Though not always the centerpiece of the space, items such as printers, photocopiers and scanners are the backbone of most organized offices. Here at Brigadoon, we are very excited to unveil our brand new 3-in-one!
Ricoh Printer

Office Interiors in Dartmouth generously donated this fancy Ricoh Aficio 1045 printer/scanner/photocopier to our office on Gottingen Street. This outstanding gift will keep our office running smoothly and we couldn’t be more excited! A big Brigadoon thank you to everyone at Office Interiors!

Our goal is to build and manage Brigadoon Village, and we need your help.
