David M. McKeage, Executive Director

David is the Executive Director and Founder of the Brigadoon Children’s Camp Society – a position he assumed after being seconded from the IWK Health Centre where he was the Senior Public Affairs Officer.

For more than 20 years David has been actively involved with various health-related organizations including: Camp Goodtime (Former Chair, Director and Buddy Counsellor), Canadian Cancer Society – Nova Scotia Division; Chair, Youth Task Force, Canadian Cancer Society - Nova Scotia Division and IWK Health Centre; Terry's Team Member (Province of Nova Scotia), Terry Fox Foundation; Board Member, Ronald McDonald House; Founding Board Member, Brigadoon Children's Camp Society.

David’s efforts and achievements have been recognized with: the IWK Board of Directors Recognition Award, IWK Health Centre (2004); National Certificate of Merit, Canadian Cancer Society (2002); Staff Recognition Award, IWK Grace Health Centre (1999) and in 1989 was the youngest Canadian ever to receive the National Medal of Courage from the Canadian Cancer Society.

David holds a Bachelor of Public Relations from Mount Saint Vincent University (co-op option) and a Bachelor of Commerce and Certificate in Human Resource Management from Saint Mary’s University where he graduated Valedictorian. 

Nadine Woon, Director of Fund Development & Communications

Nadine is the Director of Fund Development and Communications. With over ten years combined experience in fund development, event planning and communications in the non-profit sector, Nadine is a great addition to the Brigadoon team.

Prior to joining Brigadoon, Nadine was Marketing and Fund Development Manager for Kids Help Phone in Winnipeg. In her capacity as manager, she oversaw a wide range of donor relations as well organized events and developed local communications. Prior to her work in Winnipeg, Nadine was Event Manger for Kids Help Phone in Halifax overseeing all events in Atlantic Canada. In addition, Nadine has extensive experience sitting on various special event committees in Halifax. She brings a deep understanding of the inner workings of fund development and an enthusiasm for developing relationships. Nadine holds a Bachelor of Arts from CBU, a Graphic Design Diploma from NSCC and a Business Computer Applications Diploma from CBBC. Nadine has a great love for the outdoors and enjoys many activities including hiking and running. She also has a strong love for the arts and enjoys many creative outlets.

Jen Kelday, Director of Programs

Jen Kelday joined the Brigadoon team with excitement and enthusiasm in 2010.  As the Director of Programs she works with charities and organizations that will use Brigadoon's facilities to host their camps and helps them to develop, plan, manage and execute their visit.  She has an Arts degree in Outdoor Recreation, Parks and Tourism, a Bachelor of Science in Natural Science and a Bachelor of Education.  Jen has spent most of her career working in the outdoors at parks, outdoor centers, camps and schools.  Recently she worked at the Annapolis Valley School Board building partnerships to create sustainable programming to increase the health benefits of children and youth.  A Valley resident, Jen enjoys spending time in the outdoors with her family and friends.



Sally Banks, Administrative Coordinator

Sally Banks is the Administrative Coordinator at Brigadoon responsible for keeping the office organized and running smoothly.  After graduating from the Nova Scotia Community College Office Information Technology program she gained experience working for ING Insurance and the Department of National Defense.  With 15 years of camp experience as both camper and staff, coupled with a background in office administration, the opportunity to work for Brigadoon has been both fulfilling and challenging.  Sally also has a great love for the outdoors and enjoys many activities including mountain biking, hiking and paddling.  


 

Erin Laende – Arts Coordinator

Erin joined Brigadoon in 2010 with great enthusiasm as the Arts Coordinator. She is responsible for overseeing and building an arts program and culture which includes visual arts, music, drama, dance and much more!

Over the last 10 years, Erin has gained an abundant experience teaching many visual arts and design classes with Easter Seals Camp Woodeden as well as working as a Communications Coordinator and Graphic Designer and sits on the board of Team Possibles with the Nova Scotia Down Syndrome Society. She earned her Masters of Design with a focus in creating inclusive communities and a BFA from NSCAD and a BA & Sc from McMaster University.

Erin comes to camp with a true passion for the arts and outdoor adventures. She enjoys creating a programming that brings the artist community and campers together.

Adam Langille – Executive Chef

Adam is the Executive Chef at Brigadoon Village.  Born in the Annapolis Valley, he spent his childhood exploring and fishing on the lakes around what was to become Brigadoon Village.  Adam received his culinary education from the Le Cordon Bleu Institute in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania, and has spent the last 10 years cooking his way through the Eastern areas of the United States and Canada. Brigadoon Village is thrilled to have Adam’s culinary skills.

An avid lover of camping and the outdoors, Adam plans the highest standards of foodservice, health and flavour for campers and staff at Brigadoon Village.

George Hardy – Facilities Coordinator

George is Brigadoon Facilities Coordinator responsible for all maintenance and overall upkeep of Brigadoon Village. Brigadoon is thrilled that George is part of the Brigadoon team setting gold standards that are hard to match. Prior to Brigadoon, George worked as Maintenance technician with Grand View Manor in Berwick for over 15 years and received his designation of Systems Maintenance Technician through Buildings Operation and Management Institute.

Spending his early years living in Halls Harbour, George developed a great love for the valley life and has never moved. He also enjoys coaching Bantam “A” baseball in Aylesford and for many years has participated in the scouting movement as both a participant and a leader. George has a great passion for the outdoors and enjoys hunting, fishing and camping with his family.

Rotary International

It is extremely exciting to realize that a camp for chronically ill children could become a reality in a few years. The members of the Rotary Club of New Minas Sunrise are very proud to be involved with Camp Brigadoon Society fundraising for this much needed project.

CAMP GUTS & GLORY

Camp Guts and Glory is open to children and youth throughout the Maritimes living with Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis. It is the first camp in Canada serving this population.

Office Assistant Extraodinaire- Maartje Stroink
