Cooking and Gardening Programmer

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

With a friendly, caring and adaptable personality, the Cooking and Gardening Programmer provides quality programming and supervision to young people at Brigadoon Village. They spend the majority of their time interacting and guiding their participants at daily scheduled activities helping them participate and achieve success. Opportunity for professional development related to program area, developing skills to take into future employment. Reporting to the Summer Director, the Cooking and Gardening Programmer is organized, professional and creative with all of their programs while at Brigadoon Village.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS, CERTIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

· Current First Aid / CPR-C

· Criminal Record Check and Child Abuse Registry Check

· Min. must be turning eighteen years of age in 2015

· Team-oriented, enthusiastic and creative

·  Experience working with children and youth

·  Able to physically and mentally care for campers on a daily basis

·  Live on-site the entire summer  

·  Background in cooking and gardening required  

POSITION SPECIFIC SKILLS

·  Live in the lodges with camper groups, serving as a mentor and role model.

·  Provide supervision and assistance in all aspects of camp life, including meal times, rest periods, and activities and events.

·  Instruct in cooking and gardening sessions.

·  Along with other programmers, plan and deliver “camp wide” programs and events.

·  Communicate with Head Programmer, Head Counsellors and Summer Director to develop professionally throughout the summer.

·  Ensure camper safety is maintained according to relevant policies and procedures.

·  Encourage positive interactions between other campers and staff.

·  Cleaning and maintenance of the facility.

·  Assist campers in daily hygiene and personal care.

·  Provide campers with encouragement and positive reinforcement during times of challenge and stress.

·  Work with Head Counsellors and Summer Director to resolve conflicts, manage appropriate behaviour and enforce Safety Policies and Procedures.

·  Participate in week long staff training week for skills applicable to programming, team building and camper care

·  Must be creative, energetic, adaptable and compassionate.

HOURS AND LOCATION OF WORK:

Full time contract

Camp Counsellor

·   Bronze Medallion or higher swimming qualification preferred

Art Programmer

·   Communicate with Head Programmer, Head Counsellors and Summer Director to develop professionally throughout the summer.

·   Ensure camper safety is maintained according to relevant policies and procedures.

·   Encourage positive interactions between other campers and staff.

·   Cleaning and maintenance of the facility.

·   Assist campers in daily hygiene and personal care.

·   Provide campers with encouragement and positive reinforcement during times of challenge and stress.

Camp Administrative Assistant

Period: Contract position (9 months), March-November

Location: Brigadoon Village, South Alton, Annapolis Valley, NS

Overview:

Brigadoon is a year-round, non-profit residence camp facility. With our partners, we deliver camp programming to children, youth and families living with a chronic illness, condition or special need across the Maritimes. Brigadoon is a place where campers come to experience new things, meet friends who are facing similar challenges, and to just be themselves. Our guiding principles lead program development: to live sustainably, to be innovative, to be environmentally mindful, to be creative, to be compassionate, to be accountable, to be accessible, to create and build partnerships, to be community –orientated, and of course, to have exceptional fun.

Reporting to the Director of Programs and Operations the CAA will perform administrative duties related to the camp operations and facility management.  They will be the liaison between groups visiting the site and the employees and volunteers at the Village.  They will help to coordinate all aspects of the groups, campers and families who visit Brigadoon.  They will provide administrative support to the Village staff through database entry and management, maintaining a filing system, ensuring confidentiality, and sending out information.  They will help with the set up and take down of visits and help to coordinate special events.

Experience and Qualifications:

Required Qualifications

·   Police and Child Abuse Check

·   Standard First Aid and CPR Level C considered an asset

·   Post-secondary degree/diploma in a related field

·   Experience working with a not-for profit or charitable organization an asset

·   Demonstrated management skills including: problem solving, analytical and organizational skills, innovation, creativity, time management

·   Noted exceptional interpersonal skills and intuition

·   Ability to work in a fast-paced, demanding environment of competing priorities

·   Demonstrated ability to effectively and efficiently manage projects

·   A commitment to meeting Brigadoon’s mission

·   Excellent writing skills

·   Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite

·   Valid driver’s license

Personal/Professional Characteristics

Enthusiastic, passionate, self-starter, creative, innovative, excellent time-management skills, flexible, adaptable, diplomatic, able to work in a small, fast paced, dynamic office environment. Willing to learn, teach, experience and have fun.

Hours of work and dates:

Start Date: March 2, 2015

End Date: November 13th, 2015 (with possibility of extension to full time permanent)

The position will typically be 9am-4pm, Monday to Friday with occasional weekend and evening work

35 hours per week
